A: It is important not to confuse silicon with silicone. They have completely different physical characteristics. Silicon is a naturally occurring element and an indispensible part of the food we eat. Silicone is a group of materials resembling plastic that contain silicon, oxygen, and other chemicals. Silicone is used for implants, medical tubing, and a variety of other medical devices.
A: Absolutely not. The silicon dioxide is infused onto the polyethylene. It is amorphous silicon, meaning that it has no definite form, so it cannot break or crack. No matter how hard it is flexed or dropped.
A: Even if it could be removed, silicon dioxide (at the levels found inside of the bottle) occurs naturally in fruits, vegetables, and nuts, so ingestion is not a problem.
A: Yes. In addition to independent verification testing by SGS, the FDA has approved the use of SiO2 for direct food contact.
A: The bottle interior should never be scrubbed or mechanically scratched. The best cleaning is to simply rinse your bottle with warm water and a mild detergent. Alternatively, the bottle can be washed on the top rack of the dishwasher. For the best performance we recommend rinsing the bottle after every use.
A: The bottle can be frozen and/or can have ice placed inside.
